I want to use this opportunity to talk about my favorite Witcher Short Story.
The Lesser Evil!
The Lesser Evil is a short story in the Sapkowskis first Witcher Book, the Last Wish. In this article i want to analyze the Lesser Evil and talk about its impact on the World of Witcher.
I also want to highlight it’s Villain Renfri and why she should be Part of Gwent like everyone already requesting everywhere. Let’s start a analysis that will look at the Evil that is lesser than the other Evil that isn’t lesser.
“Evil can be hard to define, but its never lesser”
To understand the Deep Story of ” The Lesser Evil” we first need to understand the difference level of Evil. Evil is Evil. But can it be Lesser or More than Lesser? Not only this Story is full of Lesser Evil. Let’s for example look at our beloved Card Game Gwent.
Can you become Evil by playing Gwent? Lets go through this Thought Experiement:
You open up Gwent. The Epic Title Music greets you. You look at the Deck Builder and decide what Faction to play. What did you choose? Was it the right decision or the Evil One?
Nilfgard? Locking , Control Cards , Enslavment , Thicc Ass….. You are Evil.
Scoia’tael? Can you stop playing No Unit Orb Trap Elf Handbuff Tempo Gord? You are Evil.
Monster? What do you think Monster is wholesome Pointslam… Points are Evil. You are Evil.
Skellige? You are good. Oh no you just discarded your Good Intentions. You are Evil.
Syndicate? You are winning every Game. Winning is Evil it makes your Enemy Sad. You Are Evil.
Nothern Realms? You win Rate is Evily Low.
Closing the Game and not playing Gwent? Evil.. CDPR needs your support. You are Evil.
Playing Gwent is Evil
We just learned that Gwent is the Root of Evil. How do you feel after finding that out? I can understand that you now want to reconsider your life but its not time. We need to find out how did that happened? How can the game we enjoy become Evil? Can we lessen the Evil by finding out the Root behind it? We need to explore the beginning of Gwent. To the Time the Dwarves built Mahakam. Exactly 7000 Years in the past. A Time where no Evil existend in Gwent.
The Orgin of Gwent
As we all know are the Creators of Gwent are the Dwarves. But only one Dwarf created Gwent. And its his Story we need to learn.
One Day the Famous Dwarv Gwintos was summoned by Brouver into his House. Gwintos was famous for being the Dwarf with the highest IQ in the World. He was a tactician , a Doctor, an Engineer and a Card Boi.
Brouver and Gwintos where brothers in arms. They thought in countless Wars , shared a lot of Brews together and loved each other deeply. Brouver asked Gwintos:
“Gwintos my mate i wanna hire you for the Building of Mahakam. Homie you know we will start the construction tomorrow lad.“
Gwintos was confused. Brouver should know that he hates physical work. Brouver could read his loyal friend’s concerns and he told him
“Hey mate don’t worry. You won’t lift a bloody hammer. Bruh please make a Card Game to entertain the workers. It will increase there productivity”
Gwintos became the Chief of Entertaining and created the Gwent we know and love. Brouver gave him a giant Mansion and alot of wealth. Life was good for Gwintos. He knew he will be working for a long time , creating new Expansions for Gwent every to months. Afterall…
Mahakam wasn’t build in a Day!
One the second day Gwintos lost his Job. Mahakam was already finished on the second Day. Brouver didn’t need him anymore. He imminently lost all his Money and Mansion. He was on the street. Everyone beaten him up. After all he was an Nerd. Life was bad for Gwintos.
Gwintos needed a new way to earn money. Gwent didn’t made enough money to sustain him. Or like Brouver said :
” Gwent was so yesterday mate , i gonna stream variety”
Gwintos wanted to show the other arrogant Dwarfs that Gwent isn’t dead. Gwintos had to go a drastic way. The Way that leads a Men into the depths of Hell.
He opened a Pancake Store named “Gwent” to sell costume made Pancakes.
And this is where our real story begins….
The Lesser Evil ( Prequel)
One the third Day Gwintos became rich. He owned Mahakam now. Everyone enjoyed his Costume Made Pancakes. His Secret was to create a new Pancake every 10 Minutes. He made one out of Met, he made a sweet one for the young dwarfs, Edgy Pancakes filled with Metal to attract Adult Dwarfs. It worked. Everyone celebrated Gwintos Costume Gwent Pancake Creation. Alot of Dwarfs tried to copy Gwintos concept. No one could Open there own Pancake Store , because Gwintos allready made every Pancake that exist now or in the Future.
Even Brouver said :
“*munch* please make me relevant in the meta again *munch*”
Life was good for Gwintos. But on the Evening something happend.
She was pretty. A Pretty Evil.
Gwintos 7 best Costumers where 7 Gnomes. Known as the Band of 7 Gnomes they ate Gwents legendary Pancakes everyday. They loved the constant changing panckes. One day a beatiful Girl appeared in Mahakam. Everyone on the street stared at her. No one could stop her. She slowly entered Gwent. She looked at Gwintos and ordered a Pancake. She threw the Pancake on the Ground and said
“I want Crepe”
Everyone was shocked. Was Gwents Pancake actually Yesterday? Does it need Crepes? Renfri left Gwent and took the 7 Gnomes with her. The Day Renfri entered Gwent, was the Day Gwintos learned ..
Evil is Evil but Pancake is not Crepe
One the fourth Day Gwintos became poor. No one wanted to eat his Pancakes anymore.
Everyone now ate Renfris Crepes. Life was bad for Gwintos.
Gwintos just wanted her to return to Gwent. To eat his Pan Cakes. But her and everyone in Mahakam only wanted to Renfris Crepes. Gwintos knew. He needed to follow the lesser Evil.
He needed to dig out his secret recipe. The forbidden one. A Crepe filled with Protein Powder.
Something he swear to never make never again. Or like Brouver used to say :
“I think i need a Rework mate”.
Gwintos was unstoppable. He brought all the Protein Powder in Mahakam. The best flour from Tousaint. The Saltiest Salt deep from the Mines of R*ddit. And a little bit of Magic Sugar.
Renfri ,the Gnomes and a Brouver where waiting outside Gwent. They could hear Gwintos working. They were waiting for 6 Months. Gwintos came out with a Giant Protein Crepe. Ah Crepe full of Protein that makes you Stronger after one bite. He named proudly named it
“The Power Crepe”
Suddenly Gwent exploded.
Everything was in Ruins. Gwintos is waking up in the Fire of Gwent. He was looking around. All the Gnomes died in the Fire. Brouver survived, but no one plays him. Gwintos spotted a small note next to him, unharmed by the Fire. When he opened it, he could read …
” UwU Your Girl Renfri here. Thanks for the Protein Crepe. I ate it and now i am strong enough to kill Stregebor. I accidentallily destroyed your Place with my new Powers. Surry xO. Your Trulys. Renfri. *floss away*”
Gwintos was in shock. What he thought that is lesser Evil was full Evil. He lost his Gnome Friends. He lost Brouver for the third time. But the most devastating part is …. His Crepe…
it is the Reason for the Destruction of Gwent… His Power Crepe… His
Power Crepe destroyed Gwent.
